Velodrome License fees

For liability reasons (blah!) you have to have Cycling BC insurance to ride the velodrome. It is $26 and it is good until the end of December (You will need to purchase it again in jan for 2007). You can purchase it online or at the velodrome, and it's good only to ride the burnaby velodrome.

Learn To Ride + Learn to Race Clinics
Submitted by Wease on January 28, 2007 - 6:31pmAs of writing you need to join and complete four courses in total: three "Learn to Ride" clinics and a fourth "Learn to Race" clinic. The learn to ride clinics allow you to ride on the track at all open times. The Learn to Race clinic is however required before you can race.
- LTR #1: Intro to Track Cycling (1.5 hrs) - $10
- LTR #2: Basic Group Riding (1.5 hrs) - $20
- LTR #3: Developing Agility / Individual Skills (1.5 hrs) - $30
- Learn to Race: An Intro to Competition (1.5 hrs) - $30
That comes to a grand total of $90, which includes track bike rentals (At the moment using street bikes is in the air. It may happen in the near future.

The Science of the Boards
Submitted by nikcee on November 23, 2006 - 12:42pmVery interesting article about how they come up with velodrome designs...
Some great quotes in it as well...
"Football is considered a great game. And kicking, passing, catching, blocking are all part of the game. If football was like track cycling they would line up the quarterbacks and award a medal to who could throw the best (like sprinters) and then line up the kickers and give an award to kicker who kicked the farthest (like pursuiters) and then line up the runners and blockers and give an award to the best (like a team pursuit).
Recap from LTR #1
Submitted by Wease on November 5, 2006 - 7:07pmSo the first Learn To Race (LTR) clinic down at the Burnaby Velodrome was lots of fun. Tons of city fixed gear riders showed up to, as Nikcee so eloquently stated, ride some boards. It was good to see such a diversity of riders interested in the track.
From what I understand everyone enjoyed their time. Some were a little intimidated by the steep banking of the turns (47 degrees), but soon everyone was riding like a pro. My personal favourite is the black line. The black line is the is the lowest point on the track you are legally allowed to ride at, if you are racing. As a result it is the fastest line on the track. There is nothing like coming out wide and high then dropping down into the turn, grabbing the black line and rocketing around the turn at break neck speeds. Yeee haw!

So you want to play at the Burnaby Velodrome? Well good on you! If you have no idea what the Veledrome is then check out their webpage:

Right now back to why you are here. The coles notes of the situation is that you must first pass three learn to ride clinics to be allowed to ride at the track, followed by a learn to race clinic to be allowed to race. Also, at all times yo
