Lack of Updates
Submitted by Wease on May 28, 2007 - 3:59pmSorry for the lack of updates on the FG calendar, I have been rather busy the last month: Wrote comprehensive exams, went to Colorado for a workshop then Tofino for a meeting. Its a hard luck life, having to learn to surf while I was in Tofino. I went to the Surf Sisters surf school for a lesson. They were totally cool and good instructors. I was standing up after the first couple of tries. About the only disappointments was that I didn't have any good crazy crashes. Clearly I must go back to Tofino so I can properly crash a surf board.
Surrey Critical Mass Inaugural Ride
Submitted by edg on March 26, 2007 - 2:51pmThis is footage of the inaugural Surrey Critical Mass. The ride even got the support of transportation minister Kevin Falcon, chief promoter of the Gateway Project. Surrey is very much a city built around the car, which might explain why there was such a warm response to the unusual sight of 50 plus noisy cyclists riding through the rain. However, there was an incident, involving a dump truck and several cars in a very big hurry.
Microsoft's Ad Campaign Against Cyclists
Submitted by Wease on January 31, 2007 - 1:24pmWhether with malicious intent, or as a result of the acceptance of cultural misconceptions, it seems Microsoft, the software giant, has chose to finance an ad campaign against cyclists! While the campaign is not an overt attack against cyclists, it is just a distasteful, coming in the form of a subversive attack against people who choose to be self-propelled. An ad campaign that painfully buys into the accepted myths of North American society, namely that cyclists are second class citizens.
Growin up?
Submitted by Wease on December 5, 2006 - 10:14amSo about one month ago I switched FG over to a different application yo run the show (drupal). When I did that only 5 user accounts came along for the ride. Since that time another 55 have signed up giving a grand total of 60 one gear lovin' peeps. Yikes! Considering I suspect a large proportion of FG readers are Luddites I am absolutely amazed!
In other news I bought some argyle socks, which I will be wearing at the Wednesday Night Series at the track. I figure these will be my secret go fast socks. Shhhh... don't tell anyone.
Bike Porn Gallery
Submitted by admin on November 7, 2006 - 11:39amOkay boys and grrls I have a little treat for you. As you know FG is still evolving behind the scenes. For example I have just enable image upload for all of you. You should be able to upload and insert images on the fly - I will make a video tutorial soon enough.
But that is not the treat, the real treat is cool image slide shows. When you make an image (i.e create content > image) you can choose a gallery to put it in. A fancy flash slideshow is made on the fly. For example here is the Bike Porn Gallery:

Bicycle Bee
Submitted by lyledriver on October 16, 2006 - 1:39pmHey Wease,
I know its already in your calendar, but just thought I would throw up a post about the upcoming Bicycle Bee workshops.
Things are shaping up quite well at the moment, we've got plenty of volunteers and the spaces to make this go off. If you've ever wanted to learn more about making life on two wheels easier now's your chance.

Hit From Behind
Submitted by Wease on August 15, 2006 - 5:47amNow I have never personally met the infamous Big Johnny behind www.drunkcyclist.com/, but I have talked to him over email. I would share those conversations but I would have to put one of those "19 and over" signs on the site. Love him, hate him, whatever, he is one of the original bike bloggers, and he just had a run in that will all fear. Last week he was hit from behind by a sedan travelling something like 55 mph while he was riding in the bike lane in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Good news is Big Johnny is recovering, has recently been discharged and has apparently become the new bicycle spokesperson for bicycle safety with his multiple interviews on local television. Here is hoping you can get back on the bike soon!
Bike Podcasts
Submitted by Wease on May 4, 2006 - 6:02amWorld is a crazy place. Technology moves faster than I can keep up. Aparently there are these things called podcasts, which are kinda like radio shows on the internet. They are pre-recorded and made available for download and listening. I got on it a while back with the CBC radio 3 (Canada's independent music scene), but since have ignored them. I never thought of looking for bike-centric versions, until today. Below are a few I have found.
