Bikes inside!
Submitted by Wease on February 17, 2008 - 2:33amThe bikesinside party was a smash! Among the interesting events was the microcross, a cyclcocross race on bikes with no bigger than 16 inch wheels. Incidentally I was the unsuspecting cover model (the picture used was from one of the BC cup races). Not to be outdone, rather than wearing my usual overly tight spandex I opted instead to wear a micro-skirt, red wig, beeds and a BMX helmet. It is a long standing joke to cross-dress for a cross race, since this was a microcross a micro skirt only made sense. Somehow I won a heat and made it to the finals. It was a riot.
Surrey Critical Mass Inaugural Ride
Submitted by edg on March 26, 2007 - 2:51pmThis is footage of the inaugural Surrey Critical Mass. The ride even got the support of transportation minister Kevin Falcon, chief promoter of the Gateway Project. Surrey is very much a city built around the car, which might explain why there was such a warm response to the unusual sight of 50 plus noisy cyclists riding through the rain. However, there was an incident, involving a dump truck and several cars in a very big hurry.

Movie World Premiere - You Never Bike Alone
Submitted by edg on November 3, 2006 - 1:42pmYou Never Bike Alone is an 80 minute documentary looking at how cyclists are building critical mass in Vancouver, Canada, and changing the face of the city.
Critical Mass is a reclamation of public space that started in San Francisco in the early 1990s and spread by the internet throughout the world. On a set day, at the end of every month, cyclists and other self-propelled people ride en masse through city streets.
Speed Freaks!
Submitted by nikcee on October 25, 2006 - 10:43pmSo I'm sitting here over a month after this race thinking 'Is this even worth it?' but you know I have to have something to show my kids when I get old so if peole are even still using the internet then I'll point them to this post and say... 'Here... I did that, or at least I put that race on!'
The background:
I have had the chance to participate in a few alleycats here and found myself eagerly looking forward to the next one as summer began. I feverishly read stoires of races in other towns, laughed at ridiculous themes, gasped at amazing feats of cycling strength and skill... but where was my chance to test my hard-earned street knowledge?
Hey Fixie!
Submitted by Wease on October 23, 2006 - 8:40pmSo I have had too people mention to me before and after Nik Cee mentioned it again and sent me the poster, I figured it was time to get off my ass and write about the "Hey Fixie" rides occurring at Science World on Wednesday at 7pm (see the calendar or click on the poster).
The "Hey Fixie" ride apparently stems from what has been happening on the streets, as one fixie rider yells to another to hook up to ride and learn some new skills.

Event: Bicycle CARcass
Submitted by Wease on September 28, 2006 - 4:37amWell as part of Bike Love Weekend, last weekend, I went out to the two wheel madness that is Bicycle CARcass.
There were a diversity of events including bicycle derbies, blindfold slow race, the down to the ginch race, the strap on race, bicycle chariots (move over Russell Crowe) and the Main Event... Bicycle CARcass.
Two parts rugby, one part wrestling and all bicycle this one of the typical examples of the crazy Vancouver bike culture. Reason again, while Vancouver could be considered on of the premier North American Bike Meccas. Damn, I love it here.
Bike Love Weekend '06
Submitted by Wease on September 8, 2006 - 4:01pmSo I am back from Guatemala and kickin' it. Overall I had a total blast despite a couple interesting incidents (I finished my trip volenteering at a turtle reserve). Anyway I am trying to get caught up on the low down that is happening in Vancouver.
For all you bike culture freaks there are some big things comming down the pipeline for the end of september:
Bike love weekend + Velomutations
