Step 4: Add your "Money Shot" image of your bike

This is relatively straight forward. One is for your best shot of your bike, otherwise know as the "Money Shot." You are only allowed one here, so choose wisely. Select the file and click "upload" a thumbnail should appear (be patient it can take a while to upload large files.)

Step 5: Add additional images (Optional)

Next you can add more photos of your bike in the "Additional Images" field. Each time you click upload a new entry form is made available to specify the next photo. Add as many photos as you would like. Below is an example where three additional photos where specified (Wease's first fixie)

Step 6: Publish!

Then fill in the "Body" text box describing your baby then click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form when you are ready for the world to see!

See the example

The first fixie built by Wease can be see below with 4 photos in total submitted.

Score!   Rather than

midnightsimon's picture

Score!

Rather than creating a new forum topic for each bike, though, would it not make more sense to start one forum thread that was a 'post a pic of your bike' thread, and then each of us upload a picture of our bike to it?

I'm going to go take a picture of my polo bike right now - its a singlespeed, soon to be fixed.

Update

Wease's picture

Note the above comment is now obsolete. You may upload as many images as you like and bike porn is its own beast, it is no longer in the forums.

Various reasons

The main reason is the limitation of drupal (what runs the site). Drupal's basic piece of info is called a "node". This includes images, blog entries, forum topics, etc. Each node can have comments attached to it, but a comment is not a node.

A node can have an image attached to it, with a very simple to use image attach form. We could insert images into comments but it is rather difficult and would require the user first uploads the image then comes back to the forum to comment, and then use an image inserter program that doesn't seem to work correctly with internet explorer for PC's. At this time there is no way to directly upload/attach an image into a comment, that's super simple and works with ALL web browsers. Perhaps I could hack and reprogram the install... NOT any time soon.

Bonuses

PLUS with each bike as its own topic/node I can do funky views like this one :

http://fearlessgearless.com/bike-porn
http://fearlessgearless.com/bikeporn/gallery

Where we see a listing of bikes...This lets you surf through the bikes visually. I could not do that if the photos were in the comments.

The comments are distinctively kept with each bike rather than mixing them all up in one thread.

Plus, there are navigation arrows to go from thread to thread, or in this case from bike to bike.

Who knows

Maybe I should call the forum bin "Bike Gallery"

Maybe there is a better way, I do not know
