Tickets to the gun show

January 6, 2009 - 9:51pm
I went to visit my brother over the holidays and happened to notice he has a chin up bar mounted in his doorway. My dad and youngest brother were in the room at the time I decided to try it.

Embarrassing fact: I can do only one and a half chin ups. My youngest brother did 3. My dad, who's in his fifties, did five before stopping because he "didn't want to do anymore".

So my desire to redeem myself has made me interested in getting my own chin up bar. I basically want two "features": cheap (under $40) and doesn't use screws to mount. Anyone know where I can get one locally? I don't want to order online and have to pay shipping.

Holiday eating means this comic is disturbingly accurate :(

Bike-messenger

January 6, 2009 - 9:49am
Hey, not sure wheter this is the right forum or not. But i have a bit of a dillemma. I'm now in Sweden, but spent the last year in Canada, before my working-visa expired, which meant i had to go back. But i really liked Canada and my plan was/is to go back as soon as i could/can.

I really wanna go to Vancouver first this time, as i've heard it's a beautiful city and it's also where my cousins reside. However to be able to do this it seems i need a job-offer from a company in canada, so that i can get a working-visa. So i guess i was gonna ask if anyone happens to know what i can do to try to get this perhaps? Where to start!? And my chances/possibilities and such?

Thanks,

Rickard

ADHD research and some other stuff

December 31, 2008 - 12:07pm
My friend forwarded me an email with some links to various articles published by an organization called NARSAD (http://narsad.org). The one I found particularly interesting was this one on ADHD at http://www.narsad.org/news/press/rg_...008-09-09.html, as it's something I have, and it was cool reading about some more evidence behind some of the theories behind how it works.

If you were interested in some of the other ones, there's also an article on some research that's been done on autism, as well as OCD. You can see a compilation of the abstracts at http://www.narsad.org/news/press/rg_...08-12-23b.html.

Thought some people might find this interesting, so I figured I'd share!

Free Shit

December 30, 2008 - 1:33am
Hey All,

My wife and I recently purged all of our belongings and ended up with a few bags and boxes of things that need to find a new home - cd's, dvd's, bike parts, clothing, household items. There are also a few larger items - desk, art stand that we would like to sell. If you are interested, stop by 1862 Charles Street (garden suite, through gate), between 2 and 4 p.m. on the 31st.

Thanks,

-Ted.

is this fo' real?

December 29, 2008 - 3:18pm
basement suite prison near commercial/broadway

didn't know where to put this and I don't want to start a religious discussion at all. Just wondering if anyone else saw this ad.

Id bracelets, mandatory 530am wake up, drug screening...sounds too over-the-top to be for real. My buddy from TN pointed it out to me. Wouldn't be as surprising coming outta there but seems way outta place in Vancity. If I'm all for respecting religious beliefs but their rental requirements infringe on more than a few personal and legal rights.
Tempting to go interview for it and have a little fun.

GOOD GEAR RATIO FOR A SINGLE SPEED

December 29, 2008 - 1:19pm
OK everyone here is your chance to help me out with some opinions on gear ratio's

I have a 16 tooth free wheel...

I want to build my bianchi up into a single speed AGIAN...(even though I kind of hated it as a single speed in the past) this is my answer to having a cross bike/snow bike for now as well as a grocery getter....mountain bike bars for loading grocery bags on...

I am in ok shape right now but in general don't like to push heavy gears but would rather spin a bit but not too much. My fixie is a 42 15 and I love it....but not sure if I want a bigger gear ratio for my single speed.

On that note...I am looking for a used ring that would work...42-45 so maybe that will determine what I go with...just wanting some advice.

CHEERS
Louise
