I have no style. I know this and strangely I am proud of it. Its not that I don't any idea as to what is in, I do. Its just that I always choose function over style. One good example is the tight fitting jeans (with collar roll) that have been infiltrating the fixed gear hipster community for the last couple years.
Fixed gears and tight jeans strike me as a collision course. I mean sit down and think about it for an entirety of about 30 seconds. By riding fixed gear (especially in the hilly Vancouver area) you are choosing to ride a bike that will have the correct gearing about 7% of the time. The usual result of such an endevour are abnormally large quads (see picture).
Do you see the problem now? Large quad development combined with excessively tight jeans can only result in things that are all wrong. I mean something has to give, right?
Besides, tight jeans personally scare me. They really do. Maybe it's the fact I was blessed (or cursed) with a pair of abnormally big balls, but tight inflexible jean material crushing my genitalia just doesn't sound too appealing does it? You think humankind would have figured these things out after living through the horror that was the 80's (think Axle Rose and tight white pants- ekk!)
Why do we wish to make these mistakes all over again?
Lastly, I often hear remarks from the tight jean fashionistas about how uncool it is to be seen wearing spandex cycling clothing. Hey, I wear cycling kit when I ride distance. And guess what? Those tight jeans aren't much different than tight cycling kit. The only real difference is material. And at least spandex will stretch around the aforementioned large testicles. Not to mention the same "stretch rule" will also apply to those with excessively large labia (male or female).
So in closing I am against tight jeans, and will be putting forward a private members bill shortly.

nice one wease...
your assumption is of course based on the riding of the bike for any distance though. ;]
having said that... skateboarding (an activity that is far more dynamic in its range of manoeuvres) initially scoffed at the rise in popularity of tight/girls/skinny jeans. it doesnt seem to have slowed the progression of the sport.
equally many of the tighter jeans are made with a small amount of stretch in them... to allow for extra movement.
having said that... the simple fact that it is a lot more work to ride in tight pants (jeans or not) makes me disinclined to wear them on my bike.
but different horses for different courses as they say...
Ride in lycra. To the shops in baggy(ish) jeans.
Tight jeans should not be matched with males, full stop. :S
Like nikcee said, most 'tight' jeans actually have stretch in them and are more comfortable than you'd think. All of my jeans are tight (and of the cuffed variety), and I ride fixed.
This hasn't presented a problem yet; in fact, it's ideal because I don't have to worry about pant legs getting caught in my chain. They're comfy enough that I can commute to and from school in them.
I don't feel like I'm giving anything up function wise. When my quads get as beefy as the chick's in the photo, perhaps I'll reconsider. Until then I'm going to continue rocking the tight jeans.
You can wear the same pair of skinny jeans, day after day, without washing them, and they just get cooler. Try the same thing with spandex and you'll be prosecuted for bioterrorism. Hey thats a good tactic for the races tomorow... I'll just wear some shorts from the bottom of the pile and no one will be able to follow my attack!
Either that or you will give them even more incentive to stay in front of you.
"Psst... make sure to stay in front of that smelly guy"
Plus no washing is setting yourself up for some nasty crotch rot!
i biked from newport to san francisco in tight emerica cords... no problems except it wore a huge whole in the ass and i can't wear those pants anymore... but otherwise with the 2-3% spandex they're very comfortable and you don't worry about getting chained...
it's as simple as not wanting to have to change clothes all the time (bike shorts to pants, clipless shoes to shoes you can walk in all day)... i even rode a huge portion of the trip in skate shoes on clipless pedals because my sidis were just killing my feet...
all matters of fashion alone, tight jeans also don't soak water up from the ground when walking around and don't flop around...
with bfssfg's vomitron and his infamous acid wash tights.
it even has pockets!
