Bling Bling...

So there has been a bunch of discussion on recent rides about bike bling... colour matching and various ways of making your ride that 'little bit more special'... Well after I stumbled on something interesting I thought I'd compile a list of gold bling bikes/bike parts...

It should be noted that I am actually not a fan of gold parts... but it seems like the endpoint of showing off bling (outside of diamond tipped cogs/chainrings... which i haven't seen yet).

The fork legs are 3/4 length GOLD plated, with real gold, NOT gold paint. This was a feature on a limited number of Brian Hayes A.I.S. Track Team frames, to commemorate the Australian Team winning gold on the Track at the Olympic Games. From here...

And for anyone who jumps at the sight of the 'for sale' banner... they appear to only sell domestically so unless you know someone in Australia...

The ultimate in gold can be seen here...

It was subject to some strong commentary on BF

And for all of you wanting to start your own gold build... try here

But please buy a good lock... cracktown may not know how to recognise a good fixie... but they know gold!

Going into the olympics with a gold plated bike seems pretty crass. But respect the gold nagasawa track frame.

i'll agree that going into the olympics with glod plated components is a bit egotistical, but when you are riding for a country that has won at least 2 (and up to 15) medals at every Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games or World Championship track competition since 1987 i guess you carry a bit of weight.

interesting side note: the english cycling federation have recently set up a mirror program to australia's amazingly successful track cycling program in an attempt to claim back some of their former status on the boards. they are starting to have a bit of success again. look for a rise in british track racing in the next 3-5 years. which of course means lots of track frames emerging from there... in english pounds as well unfortunately...

Uh oh..
I've been bitten.

I just picked up a lovely gold chainring for my steed. Thats it. I swear. no gold hardware for me.

Its not like Bettini is making any secret of his gold medals. I read about training, and it gave a reason why they dominated. If an athlete came to train but was having a bad day, just didnt feel strong, theyd tell him to warm down and go home. Its too much of a risk to get injured, and no gains can be made in a compromised state.

Sweet! I'm Aussie AND earning UK pounds.. where do I sign? :)

BTW: I don't think they raced on the gold-plated fork blades - they were just built to commemorate the Olympic win.

We win because we drink Milo and eat Weetbix, not their pale immitations found in Britain. :P
