An amusing video and I think the bee proved how many bicycle repair superheroes we have in vancouver...
Several contributors to the site definitely kicked down some serious time and energy over the weekend.
Much thanks to everyone who helped out or came out during the past three days. I had a blast and made about a bazillion new friends.
I had an absolute blast at the bicycle Bee. All you organizer types did a bang up job!! I only helped out on the bike build-a-thon on Saturday, but I am glad I was able to put in that one day.
So many enthused people wanting to learn about bikes made me realize that I am not alone in being a bicycle nut!
Not only that but the fact I met so many people, some that I have never met before, who have been reading the shit I write on this site over the last few years really gave me a kick in the ass to keep doing what I have been doing...
Hence the new rebuild of the site and hopefully the development the future where FG becomes the hub-bub of Vancouver Fixed gear riders.
Party on Wayne!
but whoa i certainly didn't organize this on my lonesome (if you saw my apartment, you'd know that intuitively). hell, you guys were organizers too! (unless you were doing some sneaky disorganizing when i wasn't looking...in which case boy you are in big trouble!)...
we couldn't possibly have had such a fun safe active space without so many people's enthusiasm, generosity & curiosity! from master mechanics to someone who just learned to ride a bike to someone who hadn't been riding for years...we really wanted to make it as accessible & social as possible, & some of the feedback has been dang affirming. we even inspired bike cookies on sunday!
this was only the first bicycle bee. the second depends on everyone!
we're going to have a potluck meeting, sun nov 5th, at the chair factory, 2nd floor, 1624 franklin street (between commerical & woodland, 1 block north of hastings; this was where the movie night social was).
we'll take the opportunity to eat & debrief about the last bee, figure out what we learned, and decide new directions. if you missed the weekend, don't worry, all are welcome, we'd love to meet you. oh yeah, & bring food to share (vegan/vegetarian is most popular).
also, please send pictures of the weekend & suggestions to bicyclebee AT gmail DOT com
some pictures are already up; view them at http://bicyclebee.blogspot.com
