I didn't know this until right now. Some guy from Chicago posted on Bike Forums a line from the state municipal law that reads-- *Section 9-52-080(b) states that "Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake that will enable the operator to make the braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement." * So just for laughs I looked up the law for the state of Virginia(where I live) and sure enough -the same law. WOW! That means I brake (no pun intended) the law at least two or three times a day!
How about you? Are you a repeat offender too?

Well technically, if you can pedal backwards and skid your rear wheel, that's a brake. I don't believe there is anything that specifically says what the brake has to be, just that you can brake and skid. I've heard they are looking at making specific wording changes in DC so cops won't harrass fixie riders for appearing to not have brakes. Right now, the way its written, I think cops can just use it as an excuse to give a biker a ticket or take their bike or whatever...well if they can catch you, haha.
Damn! I liked it better when I thought fixies were against the law.

Haha, damn right Weasel. Nothing quite pisses a driver off as when you fly through everything and beat them down the street as they sit in traffic. Well knocking on their window when they are crowding you probably comes a close second, ha.
Hey GZ, not sure where you are in VA, but if your ever in the DC metro area we should hook up. We do a TNS ride (Tuesday Night Swill). It's all about riding fixies with good people, drinking some beers, grabbing some food, and then more riding on the fixies. Fun times.
I'm in Norfolk.But It sounds like I need to make a point of going to D.C..
How could I turn down anything like that!

Speaking of such, me and the admiral figured out if we replace the solid axel in our fixies with a hollow one, that we might be able to rig up a CO2 driven pellet gun to shoot cars that piss us off.
Right now its only a concept, but that would be one kick ass illegal fixie!
