PBR Single Speed

P.B.R. single speed picture

Part of single speeding is taking the road less traveled. Why buy a sissy pre-built bike when you can buy a frame set and build one from the ground up. Sure it may cost more, but its the only one in the world and its all yours. Well the PBR single speed, recently featured in Dirt Rag, takes this concept to a whole new level, the frame is made from beer cans (used beer cans of course).

The PBR was created enirely out of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans by Milwaukee bicycle courier David Robbins who to quote Dirt rag is:

A proud United Bicycle Institute dropout, Robbins once aspired to fillet braze custom steel frames. Now he specializes in soldered aluminum. Recycled aluminum beer cans, to be specific.

To me this whole concept absoluetly rules!! What more spells single speeding than a serious dose of DIYS and beer. DIYS with beer! Apparently, the whole concept was born for Robbins while pounding back some serious beerage:

I'm no hippie, but all those cans going into a landfill kind of bothered me

Also Robbins is making the P.B.R. available as a frame set ($666 + $30 downpayment). All I can say is sign me up and do I get to drink the beer first?

Comments

I'm guessing it'll be available for mass sale beginning April 1st, 2006, and annually on that date thereafter...

Its no april fools, its the real shitz. And I totally want to buy one.

I want one!!! How many McEwans 80/- cans does it take to build one?

Not sure must be a lot because the frame weights about 5 lbs. I can't get over how unique this ride is - posers step off! Only a true bike freak would have thought it up.

Weez, pretty sure you've been had, bro...check out the other "articles" online from issue number 777 ( the latest paper issue was really number 113), in particular the "seatpost shootout" review.

Also, kinda funny that the price of the PBR SS is $666, eh?...

Still, it was well done!

No way its for real!!! Your such a doubter, man!

No seriously I saw the issue 777, the price $666, the fact he soldered the cans together, and not to mention the fork, a manitou sherman firefly, was found by dumpster diving. Also I did read the article on April 1st. But its fun to fuck around a bit- sorry for that ;-)

Now if only it really existed... then I would totally buy one - posers step off!

Where to buy in LA-OC area?
Thanks

Unfortunately, its not directly available in the LA-OC area. But at fearless gearless we are givers, I will directly import one for you. Just send me $666 plus a $200 shipping and handling fee and I will get you one as soon as I finish drinking the beer needed to make said frame.

Ah, throwing out a little nod and wink between the lines, hey?

BTW, new site is an improvement...nice work.

Thanks... its been a bit of a job getting everthing over into Wordpress, but now its sooooo much easier to be organized. Maybe FG will no longer look like something I scrapped off my ass.

jesus, shut up. I love my fixed, and i can never ride gears again, but im sick of this smug ass arrogant mentality. "a pussy pre-built"?, give me a break. i ride an 82 lejeune that i built from the frame up. its badass. but im also getting ready to buy a PRE BUILT iro mark v, which will be equally as badass if not more. ill love them both, and ill ride the hell out of them, i dont give a shit if i built it up or not. i had a lot of fun building that lejeune, and that should be all that matters. And that beer can bike is an overpriced gimmick. Just be sure not to contradict yourself and buy the pre-built bike.

Huh?

Its an april fools article...
